Three Borders, A Thousand Voices

Tarvisio Silent Play

Silent play is an immersive experience of listening and movement: through headphones and audio tracks, visitors move through the urban space following voices, sounds, music, and narrative suggestions. This route does not include a guide; the experience is self-guided, following the map and instructions provided.

Silent play can be enjoyed:

  • with audio guides available at the Tarvisio Infopoint (Via Roma 14), which must be requested and returned during opening hours, taking care of them throughout the tour;
  • or via your smartphone, by scanning the dedicated QR code and using your own headphones.

For the experience to be successful, it is important to activate each audio track at the point indicated on the map and follow the suggested order of the route.

This experience was created as part of the European project Interreg VI-A Italy–Austria PLACES, which enhances cultural and natural heritage through digital tools, artistic languages, and participatory storytelling, with the aim of making culture more accessible and enjoyable for all.

This silent play was created with the aim of promoting wider access to Tarvisio's intangible cultural heritage: stories, memories, sounds, languages, and identities that inhabit the area and tell its story.

Instructions

Start from the Tarvisio Infopoint at Via Roma 14.
Exit, turn right, and, staying on the same side of the street, activate track 1 and begin walking along Via Roma.

Continue past Caffè Nazionale until you reach Panificio Svetina, where you can activate track 2.

Continue along the street, pass Pizzeria Alpino, and reach the intersection. Here, turn right and walk up Via Romana until the junction with Via Pinete. At the Forestry Palace, activate track 3. From here, you can observe the historic building dating back to the 16th century and also glimpse the entrance to Parco Cervi.

Continue a short distance along Via Romana, then turn right onto Via IV Novembre and walk down towards the square. After crossing the street, stop on the steps in front of the church and activate track 4.

Continue listening, heading toward the medieval tower and following the passage on the left side of the church until you reach Piazzetta Pek (be careful of the steps).
From here, you can see the fortified church and the round tower, part of the ancient defenses against Turkish invasions. Activate track 5.

Take the Alpe Adria Radweg cycle path towards Austria, always keeping to the right and paying attention to cyclists. Continue along the path until the first rest area (table with benches), where you can activate track 6.

Continue along the cycle path until you reach the so-called "Tarvisio Basso serpentine." From here, go down the steep steps on the right: remove your headphones and pay attention.

At the end, cross the street and go up the left side of Via Dante until you reach the Church of the Madonna di Loreto. Here, activate track 7. Observe the church, dating back to 1688, and, opposite, Casa Rechbach (on the right, at the corner) and Casa Haring (on the left, plastered in yellow). Continue along Via Dante, listening to the track until the junction with the roads to Fusine and Cave del Predil. Follow the road slightly to the left until you reach Ponte del Bartolo, where you can stop and activate track 8. From here, you can see Casa Schnablegger, located right at the intersection of the two directions, then the old fabric shop. Continue listening along Via Vittorio Veneto, keeping to the left, until you reach the open space in front of the supermarket. On the opposite side is Casa Pirker: here, activate track 9.

Continue uphill until you reach the Covered Market. Activate track 10 and perhaps take the time to pass through both the small square outside and inside the market, among its many stalls.

At the exit, activate track 11 and continue towards Tarvisio Alta along Via Vittorio Veneto.

At the intersection with Via Giovanni Paolo II, activate track 12, then turn right and continue to the Schnablegger statue.

Here you can activate track 13 and head towards the end of the route, climbing back up to the square. Continue towards the square, where you can finish by resting on one of the benches, or indulge in one last dance to the rhythm of the polka!
