MOUNTAIN SAFETY

LIVING THE MOUNTAIN SAFELY

RULES TO BE FOLLOWED

Whether alone or in a group, with family or friends hiking, mountaineering, climbing, and mountain biking are among the most popular leisure activities in our Alps, but they also carry some risks, especially if they are poorly organized, so... SAFETY FIRST!

So that you can always go to the mountains with maximum safety, we have summarized the most important rules of behavior.

HOW TO BEHAVE IN THE MOUNTAINS

  1. Check your fitness and start with a light tour
  2. Always ask the question: is the tour/path I have chosen suitable for me?
  3. Plan each mountain tour in detail (maps, area information) and do not leave marked trails so that you always know where you are
  4. Weather conditions permitting, wear breathable clothing
  5. Obtain the appropriate equipment for the mountain and the specific tour you intend to take
  6. Always have a first-aid kit with you.
  7. Before leaving, inform someone about your chosen route and destination
  8. Adapt the pace to your physical condition
  9. Avoid walking on stones and quickly pass places with danger of falling rocks
  10. Turn back in thunderstorms, fog, or if the route is too difficult
  11. In case of an accident keep calm - if necessary call a rescue team immediately or otherwise call attention by asking for help. In case of darkness make light signals, i.e.: six short signals at 10-second intervals, to be repeated with one-minute intervals. As a response there will be three signals at 20-second intervals to be repeated at one-minute intervals
  12. Keeping the mountains clean
  13. Do not feed wild and grazing animals and approach animals only head-on
  14. Keep dogs on a leash at all times and keep a large distance from cows with calves.

ADVICE FROM OUR MOUNTAIN GUIDES

  • On secured via ferrata routes use absolutely as prescribed by the rules: harness, via ferrata set and protective helmet
  • Do not start tours too late in the day
  • Acquire all necessary information on weather forecasts - especially summer thunderstorms
  • If possible, do not go on tours alone
  • Do not deviate from the established route
  • Apply band-aids to blisters as soon as possible
  • Drink plenty to compensate for fluid expenditure.

TIPS FOR TOURING WITH THE WHOLE FAMILY

Choose trails that are suitable for strollers and not too long.

For toddlers, themed trails are often more interesting than forest roads; inquire at the Info Point to locate them.

Invest in dedicated baby gear and don't forget spare clothes.

Leave at a time that allows you to avoid the heat and crowds of midday.

Always bring plenty of drinks and what you need for a snack.

Plan enough breaks during the hike.

Enjoy the natural surroundings, sing little songs, reward your children, in short, keep them entertained.

Collect badges, gadgets and badges together along your hikes.

RULES OF CONDUCT FOR MTB IN THE BIKE WORLD

1. Stay on marked trails

2. Adhere to maps and materials describing tours.

3. Stay on designated trails - cyclocross not only damages the environment but can also be dangerous

4. Always maintain visibility and do not go beyond your limits - always critically evaluate your own abilities.

5. Hikers always take precedence over mountain bikers

6. Show regard for nature, which means keeping the environment clean and not making noise

7. Be careful when working in the woods etc. and follow the relevant directions

8. Always close gates and fences behind you

9. Do not drive at dusk

10. Give first aid.

11. Never drive without a protective helmet

12. Do not drink alcohol until the tour is over since it impairs the ability to concentrate

13. Do not drive without a bell. Be careful on Nature Trails and Single Trails! In both cases these are often old hiking trails on which other people may be playing sports. Always drive while maintaining good visibility!

BEHAVIOR IN NATURE

In the Tarvisian region many plants are protected and therefore not allowed to be collected. This applies to Edelweiss, Gentian, Narcissus, Botton d'Oro and also to the extraordinary Wulfenia Carinthisch that grows endemically only at Pramollo on the Gartnerkofel. Respecting nature means not littering, including cigarette remnants, and taking recyclables with you. It is also important to stay on marked trails. Animals should not be bothered or disturbed with disturbing noises, which are also frowned upon by other hikers. Dogs must remain on leashes and their droppings must be removed. Should we have any doubt with respect to the propriety of our behavior, we should ask ourselves the following question: will there be any trace of my passing?

Point of arrival

The Tarvisio tourist destination is located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, on the border with Austria and Slovenia
