In the program region, despite the obvious potential of sustainable tourism, it still plays a marginal role. The project aims to address this problem and has set itself the goal of strengthening both the demand for and supply of sustainable tourism through improving the visibility of sustainable operators. The activities of the individual WPs consist of an analysis of the label and sustainable tourism market in the program region and the development of a tool to help in the selection of a suitable sustainability label (WP3), cross-border training programs (WP4), as well as networking and institutionalization of a common representation of sustainable tourism operators (WP5). With these activities, the project targets both those sustainable tourism operators who serve as leaders (SMEs), as well as those who want to build such a position. By involving 30 SMEs within the three pilot regions, not only will the tool be developed, tested and optimized, but it will also provide a basis for the dissemination of the acquired capabilities. Thus, the long-term goal is to change the public image of the tourism sector in the program area and thereby put sustainability at the forefront. To make such a fundamental change within a sector, it is essential to enable cross-border actions and the pooling of resources.
