Berlin, 1879: Private detective Felix Blom and his partner Mathilde Voss investigate the murder of a prostitute on the banks of the Spree River. The trail leads into Mathilde's past – nine years ago, a friend disappeared without a trace. Now the two seem to be connected. Alex Beer, born in Bregenz, studied archaeology and lives in Vienna. She has won multiple awards for her crime series featuring the Viennese investigator August Emmerich, including the Leo Perutz Prize (2017, 2019) and the audience award MIMI (2020). In 2019, she also received the Austrian Crime Prize. Her new character, Felix Blom, also probes grippingly in late 19th century Berlin – for this, Beer was honored with the Silver Homer (2023) and the Berlin Crime Fox (2024). Her books impress with historical depth, suspense, and plenty of atmosphere.
