Pomologist Philipp Bodner of the "Fruchttrieb" tree nursery high above Kötschach has created a small realm of diversity for over 170 different fruit varieties. Only grafts from pomologically verified parent trees are cultivated in terraced cultures on the sunny slope. Planted are regional varieties of apple and pear trees that are adapted to the local conditions and suitable for these altitudes. Sharing expert knowledge during a guided tour through the orchard and tree nursery, the graduate agronomist reveals valuable pomological tips on fruit varieties, demonstrates the great range of flavours using samples and explains the ecological value of orchard meadows. During the walk through the colourful, diverse orchard paradise, participants learn how to propagate fruit trees professionally and about the best times for pruning.
